We're back at Woodlea
The wait is finally over...
Friday nights (term time)
For ages 11-18
Dates for this term
Connect runs every Friday from 5 November - 17 December.
We'll restart after Christmas on 14 January.
New to Connect?
Please read all the info on this page, then contact our youth team if you'd like to join.
Staying covid safe
Not feeling well?
Please DON'T come to Connect if:
ANYONE in your house has symptoms of Covid-19
ANYONE in your house is self-isolating or waiting for a PCR test result
When you arrive, we'll ask how you're feeling. If you're not well or should be isolating, it's best to stay at home.
If you begin to feel ill during the event, please tell us. We have an isolation area where you can wait safely until your parents can collect you.
HANDS: Please use hand sanitiser when you arrive. If you touch any shared equipment, please wash your hands afterwards with soap and water.
FACE: [UPDATED] The law in England has changed - everyone aged 11+ must wear a face covering at all times (unless medically exempt).
SPACE: We'll give everyone plenty of personal space. Seats will be further apart than normal.
FRESH AIR: Windows will be open for ventilation, so the room will be cooler than normal. You might want to wear an extra layer!
TOILETS: Vision team and young people have separate toilets.
CLEANING: We clean before and after every activity.
SIGNS: You'll see 'no entry' signs or 'one way' systems. These help keep you safe. Please make sure you read and follow the signs at all times.
Lateral Flow Testing
Under 18s don't need to take a Lateral Flow Test, but if you've taken a test for school which has come back positive, please stay at home and get a PCR test.
All Vision team members will take a Lateral Flow Test before helping out at Connect.
What is Connect?
We all know life can get pretty crazy. School can be tough. It can be hard to make friends, and sometimes we wonder where we fit in. We have TikTok and Netflix and YouTube and Gaming... but is that it? Where do we find real meaning or purpose? How do we know what we're supposed to do with our lives?
If you feel like this, Connect might be for you. We're a Christian youth charity. We believe God loves you and has a purpose for your life. Connect helps you discover why you were born and how you can live your life to the full. You can ask any question about God and the Bible... you can talk to others your own age with no pressure... and you can play a lot of games and generally just have a great Friday night. Everyone's welcome. Why not give it a try.
What do I need?
Just for now, please bring your own drink (soft drinks only, no energy drinks please). This helps us keep covid safe! Please don't bring food or snacks.
How much does it cost?
All Vision youth events are free! You don't need to bring any money with you.
I'm new. Can I join?
Absolutely! If you've never been to Connect and would like to try it out, please message our youth team on 07454 50 80 30. You can also ask a parent or carer to contact us.
Who's on the team?
Our team leader is Nathan S, who's been running youth events for almost 20 years! We have a big youth team: Adam, Alison, Christine, Emma, Jess, Joe, Karen, Michael, Nathan A, Steve and Suzie.
Parents and carers
If your child would like to join Connect, please contact our youth team.
We'll send you a link to a digital Parental Consent Form. This allows us to securely register your child on our system and keep them safe when they're with us.
Reminders and updates
We send occasional updates to parents/carers via text message or WhatsApp. Young people can also opt-in for weekly reminders (ages 11-12 will need parental permission first).
Dropping off / picking up
Connect is held at Woodlea Mission in Waterfoot. Please use the front door on Tenterfield Street. Our postcode is BB4 7BA.
Doors open at 7:15pm ready to start at 7:30pm.
Please pick up your child at 9:00pm. If you're a few minutes early, please wait outside until the finish time.
We want to provide a safe environment where young people feel inspired and encouraged. We expect young people to respect each other, behave sensibly, and treat equipment with care. Our team will proactively work with young people and their parents/carers if behaviour is impacting the rest of the group.
Young people should keep their mobile with them in case parents/carers need to get in touch, but otherwise we like to keep Connect 'screen-free' as far as possible and would prefer young people not to use their phones between 7:30-9:00pm.
Connect is run by Vision, an established and trusted youth charity. Keeping young people safe is always our first priority; we have detailed and robust processes and training in place. For more information please read our Safeguarding Statement.
Connect is a faith-based activity, focusing on a Christian message of hope, freedom and new life that we believe is found in Jesus. We talk about God, faith and the Bible, and give young people opportunities to pray for each other. If you have any questions about this aspect of the activity, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Connect is free for young people to attend. If you'd like to help towards our running costs, please consider donating £5/month to Vision (or making a one-off donation) which will help us keep Woodlea Mission open for all young people in Rossendale.
